AT HOME AIR PURIFICATION SOLUTIONS
Why do we need Air Purification at home?
Whether you live in an apartment, townhome or single family home, an old home or are building a new home, there are many ways to protect and improve your indoor air quality. When it comes to air pollution, our home is one of the biggest culprits. Today’s homes are more airtight. They protect us well from the elements and keeping them out, but they are also a burden for keeping contaminants in. What kind of contaminants are infiltrating the air we breathe in our homes? For starters, the dust that you CAN see is only a fraction of what is actually circulating and hardly harmful. IT’S WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE! Keeping your home clean and well-ventilated is a great start but it is not enough. Our homes are 2-5 times more polluted than outdoor air. Many different pollutants and compound sources that stay afloat indoors includes everything from particles released from cooking, CO2 from people breathing, and any or all of the following:
- VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds)
- Dust and Mites
- Pollen
- Pet dander
- Mold and Fungus
- Bacteria and viruses
- Cleaning products/solvents
- Personal Care Products/Aerosols etc.
Indoor air quality (IAQ) has become even more important now as we continuously educate ourselves about the importance of the air we breathe. Poor indoor air quality may cause headaches, tiredness, coughing, sneezing, sinus congestion, shortness of breath, dizziness and nausea. It can irritate the skin, eyes, nose or throat. Allergy or asthma symptoms could get worse. Poor indoor air quality is caused by indoor air pollution. Knowing possible causes will help you improve the quality of the air you breathe indoors.
Let’s take a simple, single family home where a young couple is expecting their first child. As exciting as it is, preparing a home to welcome the new member can be a cause for great angst when it comes to the air quality. How? The excited couple plan to prepare the nursery with new furnishings, new carpeting to keep the room cozy and warm, a fresh coat of paint, and all new baby necessities to buy and unpack. All these obvious and necessary embellishments are HUGE culprits for large quantities of VOC”s being emitted into the young couple’s home. The adults may have mild, even unnoticeable symptoms as their lungs are fully developed, strong and healthy. But babies are particularly vulnerable to VOC”s. They are more likely to be harmed as a result of exposure because babies sleep more than adults. This means that since they spend more time in their nursery, they take in higher volumes of air per unit body weight compared to an adult in the same space. VOC’s are dangerous for all humans, but their effects are more pronounced in newborns.
Having an air purifier in your home will not only rid the air of VOC’s, but it will also continue to clear the air and rid your environment of other pollutants that can cause a myriad of symptoms. For large spaces, we often recommend our PD900 series, which offers 5 stages of filtration. For smaller spaces, like a baby’s room, then any of the Electronic Air Cleaners are your best bet. They are popular and easy to care for. With a washable cell and two small filters to replace, these units are simple and easy.
