Why do we need Air Purification?

Air quality issues at home

Before we examine all the benefits of having air purification in an indoor environment, whether it be a home, an office, a warehouse, a medical building or a school, let’s have a look at what some of the common pathogens/ allergens/ triggers are that can be found lurking in the air we breathe while indoors:

  • Dry skin cells
  • Dirt
  • Dust/dust mites
  • Mold spores
  • Pet dander/odor
  • Pollen
  • Smoke
  • VOC’s (chemicals)
  • Personal care products i.e: perfumes, cosmetics, hairspray…
  • Air/room deodorizers, sprays, candles
  • Household cleaners
  • Pesticides/insecticides

…just to mention a few

Keep in mind the large amount of time we spend indoors

Indoor Air is important PUR

Keep in mind the large amount of time we spend indoors…yes, at least 80% of our time!  We often concern ourselves with staying healthy by incorporating a healthy diet, rich in balanced and nutritious foods and drinking plenty of (clean) water.  However, many of us do not consider the air we breathe to have any place in this equation.  But why not?

The only answer that seems reasonable is that we cannot see it!  We don’t consider the air as being critical to our health simply because the pathogens in the air are not visible.  However, they do pose a threat because they can trigger so many symptoms.  We may not see them, but we are certainly inhaling them.  Breathing in particles such as the ones mentioned above can ignite allergic reactions or perhaps, worse—they can cause serious health issues if exposed to for long periods of time.  Children and the elderly are at greater risk due to their underdeveloped or poor respiratory systems.

So why do we need air purification?

We need air purification to remove triggers for asthma and other respiratory issues.  They remove microscopic impurities and clear the air of the small airborne allergens/particles that are irritants and cause allergy flare ups.  Air purifiers with a HEPA filter can remove particles as small as 0.3 microns (1/84,000 of an inch).  This includes household dust, dust mites, pollen, mold spores, fungi, bacteria, viruses, pet dander, smoke (cooking and tobacco) and much, much more.

Outdoor air pollution can make its way into a home or building a number of ways, air purifiers reduce the flow of outside pollutants by capturing and eliminating those irritants.

Items in your home or place of employment can also emit irritating aromas or chemicals that can make us severely ill.  VOC’s are a common example of this.  They can be found in paints, furniture, aerosols, just to mention a few.  Air purifiers that contain carbon potassium permanganate filters reduce these airborne chemicals and lessen contamination in the air.

Most medical offices are equipped with Air Purifiers

Most medical offices and institutions are equipped with air purification systems.  People in these environments are commonly exposed to airborne viruses and bacteria.  These can quickly and violently contaminate the air and the people inside.  Air purification is the best solution to remove the particles from the air before they can infect others and prevent the spread of such viruses and disease.

Some air purifiers use ionizers which produce and generate negative ions.  Negative ions are molecules that float in the air that have been charged with electricity.  They exist in nature in places where there are natural waterfalls or near the ocean shore.  These ions increase positive moods which can reduce depression.

Clean Air in your home or work environment

If you have clean air in your home or work environment, it can decrease cortisol levels and reduces stress.  Contaminated air causes sleep disturbances, congestion, foggy brain, restlessness, low energy levels, irritability, asthma, respiratory illnesses or even more serious diseases/conditions.

We need air purification to eliminate, remove, trap, extract and reduce harmful particles in the air we breathe.  Air Purifiers will lessen the contamination in our home / work environment and protect our health.  These units produce clean air and increase the circulation of purified air so we can manage and prevent illness and disease.  It is definitely NOT a new discovery, but it just may be a new factor to seriously consider if we want to live a healthy lifestyle.
